Hi, well i saw someone ask about cutting fine wire for ingredients in a
coherer..they were shaved like a sample using a machine like a specimen
shaver only the blade was made of carbide and the wire was fed thru a
carbide block with many holes for the wire to pass thru. As for stainless
steel, 300 series ie. 302,304 show slight magnetic properties, 308, up to
316 should not be magnetic because of their composition. 400 series like
440c which many bearings are made from is magnetic, most of the 400 series
are magnetic but some types are still non rusting. Forging, tempering and
other mechanical work on the metal can raise or lower the magnetic
attraction. As for the dull file, chavings can have much more surface area
and can be packed much tighter. the explaination i was given.. cul brian f.
