A well built, tuned coil can take full power on. We've NEVER done it any
other way (that's show biz!).

Exactly. You should design your coil so it can takes as much abuse as
possible. For example, when we test our megawatt+ transmitters here, we bang
them on as hard as we can. Because in the field aboard a ship, a sailor
isn't going to gracefully bring these things up. Just bang the breaker on
and thats it.
