I did try running both coils today. The normal magnet wire coil arcs about
20" or so. The larger plastic covered coil hardly arcs anything. maybe 1"
into free air.  Tuning may have been a little wider as you suggest but its
hard to say with such a low output from the coil.  Though I only tried them
today, the puzzle over the scope readings were done with a signal generator
not actual running of the coils.
