One thing to keep in mind for danger is that 60 Hertz is one of the most
dangerous frequencies for the human heart. It's kind of strange that 60 Hz
was chosen to be used for power distribution if they knew of these back
when it was first being generated. 60 Hertz can cause fibrillation (stop
beating regularly and quiver) at a much lower current levels through the
chest / heart than DC or other frequencies. Also at higher frequencies, it
has less effect on the nerves ( ie. pain) and involentary muscle
contractions, the higher the frequency, the less effect on a person.
I use a safty analyser for test electrical leakage on medical equipment on
my job. The test measures leakage current in uA's and has a filter built
into it before the meter circuit that simulates the effect on the human
body (ie. electric shock). From DC to 1Khz its a flat response, from there
it rolls off at 20dB per decade until it reaches 1Mhz, then is levels off
again. So above 1 Khz it required more current to cause pain and muscle
contractions that at DC or 60 Hz and at even higher frequencies, more
current. I guess the shocks one could recieve from a tesla coil output
would largely be the 60/120 Hz component.
