  First I think the nylon bolt is fine.  I have used pvc bolts in that manner
for my coils.  Not sure how you intend to use the brass bolt on top, but you
probably shouldn't have it go through the cap on top.   
   For cleaning, acetone will work, but you will possibly run into a problem
using straight acetone.  It evarporates too quickly for one, but if you put
enough on to not have it dry up too quickly you might also dissolve some of the
surface of the pipe.  PVC is soluble in it.  You might mix a little rubbing
alcohol to dilute it some(keeping in mind that rubbing alcohol has some water
in it and you'll have to make sure it's good and dry afterwards).  I have a
gallon jug of pure methyl alcohol that I used to mix with acetone for
cleaning.  took the printing right off.
