What practice? I'm *not* drawing sparks to myself. The pvc sounds better,
maybe have it so the coax exits the tube well away from me. I make sure I am
well away from any sparks coax or any wires.

A schedule 40 PVC pipe with the coax in the middle would be a better way to
do this, but I would not advocate this practice in the first place.
