Re: Tank cap problem

Hi Frank,
It depends on if you want to run a resonant or LTR coil and the type of gap you
are using.
15/30 static gap:
Resonant = 5.3nF (1 x 11 or 2 x 21 array) (3.2 amps)
LTR = 7nF (2 x 16 array) (3.41 amps)
Sync gap:
LTR = 14nF (3 x 12 array) (6.8 amps)
"I" would use the LTR values since it is safer for the tranny. MMCCalc is used
to figure this stuff out.

An example:

MMC Calculator Ver. 2.2 9/12/2000 Terry Fritz
Transformer voltage = 15000
Transformer current = .03
Firing voltage = 21213.15
Fo = 200000
Break rate = 120
Thermal dissipation constant = 40
Individual cap value = 5.6E-08
Strings Caps/Str Capacitance Voltage Temp C Cost I Arms
1 4 14.00 6400 48.21 4.00 :-(( :-(( 6.82
2 8 14.00 12800 12.05 16.00 :-(( :-| 6.82
3 12 14.00 19200 5.36 36.00 :-| :-) 6.82
4 16 14.00 25600 3.01 64.00 :-)) :-)) 6.82
--------------------------------------------------------------------
4 17 13.18 27200 2.67 68.00 :-)) :-)) 6.42
5 20 14.00 32000 1.93 100.00 :-)) :-)) 6.82
I piked 3 x 12 rather than 4 x 6 since the caps can easily take the voltage.
Cheers,
Terry
