This sounds like a conventional tube coil?  I'm not sure what you
mean by a semi-triggered spark gap TC.  I would think it is either
a tube coil or a spark gap TC, but not both.  It almost sounds as
if you are commutating the operation, in a sort of adjustable pulsed
manner something like my "staccato mode"?  This is something
that I often do to get long sparks with a low power consumption.
I use an SCR to enable or disable my coil, but in some tests,
I used a mechanical interrupter wheel.  I show a schematic at
