You should strip about an inch(or maybe 1.5 in.) around the border on both
sides.  I would definitely put them in mineral or trannie oil. 
   I thought of using the protein powder jugs for a leyden jar cap.  Should
work nicely.  Might need to have these in oil as well to reduce corona losses. 
I think the corona will break down the plastic over time.
