Joanthan:
My first MMC used 5 regular RadioShack perf boards about 5x7 inches. On each
I had 20 caps in 4 by 5 rows. All in series, naturally. Then I made a holder
from wood to hold the 5 boards essentially in parallel.

My new coil uses much larger and fewer caps (only 22).
Therefore I was able to put 11 caps in series using 1/8 acrylic roughly 6x9.
Two such boards. Then I mounted both boards in a wooden picture frame like
affair and brought the leads to common terminals on top. I think you can see
the result on Ross Overstreets page.

It was cheap and easy to drill all the tiny holes, insert the caps and
solder the 10M resistors and connections on the other side. Looks techy too!
You can see the side of the frame on the left edge in the photo on the right
side.

Hi all,

I am building an MMC and, as always, have a few questions...

I have heard that filling PVC pipe with oil always leaks. Is this true? Is
it
the glue joints that tend to fail, and if so, could epoxy or polyester resin
be
used to glue end caps on to prevent this? What about a PVC enclosure flushed
with an inert gas? I would prefer oil for cooling purposes.

I have seen several breadboard style MMCs, and they look hard to replace an
individual cap. Any arrangement ideas out there that allow easy repair?

Thanks!
