Joe,

I have a feeling that corona problems at that voltage are not as bad
as commonly suggested.  I'm not sure how much spacing would be
needed though.  I once powered my coil using two 14.4kV PT's in
series, and used a resonant arrangement for about 45KV peak or so,
and I didn't see any corona problems.

I guess either method should work, but since I favor simplicity of
design, I would use the doorknob concept of a rounded electrode.
Perhaps almost like a sphere of the proper diameter to stop corona.
