MMC construction
Original poster: "Terry Fritz" <twftesla-at-uswest-dot-net>
Hi All,
I know a lot of people are building MMC's these days :-) I just wanted to
point out that I have construction tips at:
http://hot-streamer-dot-com/TeslaCoils/MMCInfo/mmcinfo.htm
These tips may help guide you around some problems others have found.
I also note that most MMC failures have been current related and very few
have been voltage related (usually due to the strings arcing to something
they were not meant to). MMC caps seem to tolerate over voltage very well.
However, current is what heats them up and they don't like to get warm to
hot at all!! MMCCalc2 and Kurt's spreadsheet help determine the
temperatures and I recommend them highly to insure your MMC will not burn up:

There is also useful static gap NST data at:

I have said all this before but it seems like time for a repeat :-))
Cheers,
Terry Fritz
