Try Percy Hawkins Wire http://www.percyhawkins.co.uk tel 01536 523229.
They are the people who wind the spools of wire which RS Components
sell just down the road in Corby. They regularly have stacks of "reel
ends" - the remains of big reels which are left over from winding half
kilo spools for RS. Wire size from 1mm to 0,18mm (20 to a bit under
36swg in old money) in copper, and for that pole pig coil, they will
be happy to sell BIG reels of copper clad aluminium, or aluminium (not
sure if the latter is enamelled). Of course, you can buy whole reels
too.

Their address is

Percy Hawkins Wire
Carey Street
Kettering
Northants
NN16 0JL

I picked up a couple of reel ends of 0,315 (30swg) around 800g for £5!

The web address for the Scientific Wire Co is:
http://www.wires.co.uk/
They do a lot of stuff but are more pricey than Hawkins.

You can also try searching http://www.applegate.co.uk/ which has an
inventory of all manner of electrical and engineering supply
companies, including several wire suppliers. One really massive one
in Wales if you're after something colossal, but I don't remember the
URL.

Maplin do an EHT cable rated 25kV.
