The Oudin coil uses an autotransformer. The Tesla coil a two-coils
transformer.

Functionally, both systems can be made exactly equivalent by simple
circuit
transformations. No clear advantage in power output. In practice, the
Tesla system is safer because the high-voltage, low-current, secondary
is insulated from the dangerous low-impedance primary circuit.
A small Tesla coil secondary with and open connection to ground can
shock
you, but an Oudin coil with the lower end accidentally ungrounded will
connect the power supply directly to the terminal, and can be lethal.
