I'd use 3 couple of pieces of 3/4" or 1" copper pipe (or female/female sweat
on couplings) to start as a gap. #8 or #6 solid bare wire is available at
Home Depot... 50 ft should be enough to wind a primary.
You need to get some wire for your secondary, and a suitable form. 3" or 4"
PVC pipe about 2 ft long will do for the form. See if you can track down
some #24-#28 enameled copper magnet wire.
