Congratulations! You are now ready to do some "real" coiling.

Yes, that's a good assumption. I use #16 for my secondary coil 
and it is powered by a 10 kVA pig. I could have probably gotten by
with a somewhat smaller guage, but I wouldn't think anything smaller
than # 20 or # 22 would be recommended at such power levels.
