RE: More destroyed NST's How do I remove stubborn tar?

Yep, I used safety gaps and those tiny chokes from Radio shack that Bob
Turner's book reccomends. I haven't tried the terry filter yet but that's
next. I have had pretty good luck with 30 milliamp NST's surviving
reasonably long with a safety gap but when I went to 12/60 nst, it was a
different story. They fail pretty quick. It has been said by many that no
matter what you do to protect an NST, they will always fail eventually and
that depotting is the only way to prevent this. If I am wrong, than I stand
corrected.

Isn't it about time to figure out HOW you destroyed them and take
steps
to correct the problem? Do you use safety gaps set to the correct
voltage? That is a lot easier than trying to unpot damaged
transformers.
