Hi,
The answer to the question is a yes if you can stand back far enuff every
time you turn on the power. I know there are many who will not agree, but I
find the variac to be an indispensable tool. I have the variac connected with
the cheap AC voltmeters and
ammeters you can get from RS, Marlin Jones and other places. The diagnostic
advantages of being able to monitor the input voltage and current seem
obvious.
I would not play without a 10-15 Amp variac. Stay safe.
