Jerry there are a great many variables in Tesla coils, probably almost as
many as there are coilers. What I can suggest is that you start small and
work up. This has several advantages, smaller coils are cheaper to build for
one, and safer for another. It also provides an easier learning curve.
I have a design for a small coil on my own website, and there are a number
of others to be found.
What I would also suggest is that you read as much as possible of the stuff
on the internet, in particular safety stuff.
