Drew,
There seems to be a lot of emphasis "out there" on following
certain procedures for building coils. Some things are critical,
but some are not. I never coat my forms before I wind the coil,
but I do coat it after. Not only will this not affect the coil much,
it won't affect it at all. This is such a minor and un-important
detail. I sometimes used to not coat the coil at all, but
eventually it slides, so it should be coated.
Some black pipes are bad because they contain carbon,
others are OK. ABS is inherently OK, of course if it's loaded
with carbon, then it may be NG. In either case, you're not going
to see any difference in performance with ABS, PVC, acrylic, etc.
One thing bad about the PVC is it can carbon track, which can
destroy the form. But this carbon tracking only occurs if something
else is wrong and causes it.
