Max,
The first thing that I would look at would be the primary tap. If
your primary isn't properly tuned, you will get less than optimal
output and maybe none at all. I'm sure Terry and some of the other 
highly knowledgable individuals of this list could give more advise
if you could give more details of your coil setup.
