Original poster: "by way of Terry Fritz <twftesla-at-uswest-dot-net>" <Fucian-at-aol-dot-com>
Hey there, Im also a beginer but I have completed a "body " of a tesla coil
that will grow in out put as it gets "vitamins"Right now i use a 12/30nst and
get 15in arcs from a 3in diam coil. Not much but wait till I get a MMC and a
60ma!Anyways, if you want a little coil small enough to ...Playwith...(I know
im cruisin for a brusin) I have made a itty one that puts out 3in.Take a 3in
diam. by 5 in lenght piece of coil form.Cover the form from half in from the
top to half in below the bottomwith 30awg magnet wire.Thats the
secondary!Take a 6in diam plastic bucket like the GNC protein drink things
and wind on like 10 turns of awg 22 hook up wire.Place tape to hold the turns
about half in in diam.Thats the primary.Next make a simple spark gap using
something like 2 nails placed close together points facing and secure them in
something.Make a capacitor with a coke bottle, salt, al. foil and a peice of
thick wire.OR inother words, make a salt water capacitor.Dont use your neon
sign transformer for this one.Find an old bugzapper xmfr and use it.Or if you
know how to power an old flyback xfmr that would work as well.I think you
oght to build something itty before building something big.You will learn all
sorts of stuff from a little one.Like when you mess up and get a shock, you
have a chance of survival!:-)If you want to get a kit of a tesla coil the
size im talking about, go to www.amazing1-dot-com they have a little one just
like what im describing for about 20bucks.Its called "minimite"
Hope this helped
