Big sparks
Original poster: "by way of Terry Fritz <twftesla-at-uswest-dot-net>" <uncadoc-at-juno-dot-com>
Hi all list members. Have been reading Teslas Colorado Spring notes. I
see his reference to sparks being made that strike the end of the
Colorado building at a length of 32 feet. Tesla then goes on to say that
due to the winding nature of the arcs, he figures the actual length of
the arcs to be a good 128 feet in length due to the winding nature of the
arcform. Wow! He then elaborates on the subject to state that the only
reason the sparks were limited to this length was because that was where
the outside walls of the building were located, therefore draining his
arcs to ground when they hit the building structure. Then comes the
clincher! Tesla knew then that by improving upon his oscillator that he
could easily achieve sparks of 384 feet in length. I find this amazing!
And to think, this was possible over 100 years ago with only silk or
cotton covered wire, and sometimes raw rubber(which must have rapidly
broke down in the ozone created). Tesla the Man! Yea! AL.
