My first coil used a photocopier transformer. I think it was something like
6Kv at a few mA. It charged a wine bottle cap and ran at around 5 BPS, and
this whole setup gave me 1" arcs.

I've never seen one like you're talking about, maybe they meant several
hundred uA instead of mA?
