Owdin Vacuum Tube Coil
Original poster: "by way of Terry Fritz <twftesla-at-qwest-dot-net>" <Robynsaddiction-at-aol-dot-com>
Well, after seeing John's friend Nathan, and his mini tube coil (this little
beast throws six inch arcs) I have begun to wonder if it is possible to
convert a Tube Tesla Coil into an Owdin type of Tube Coil. That is, I wonder
if the bottom turn of the plate coil can be tied in with the bottom turn of
the secondary in order to avoid having to use a true RF ground. I guess that
I could just try it and then post the results, but I would like to know if
anyone has some experience with this so that I do not destroy my 810 tube. On
that note, is there anyone who has even tried using 810s? If so, what values
for the tank capacitor, and the grid resistor did you find to be optimum, and
what were the best dimensions for your plate and grid coils? Thanks all!
