hey guys
chapter two
a 4" x 13 1/2" secondary wound with 28awg, or one roll of magnet wire from
an electronics store.
toroid, is 4" aluminum duct joined w/ aluminum tape, connected to secondary
by a wire wrapped
around the toroid, 12" diameter.
primary, is 1/4" copper tube, 50', helix, 16 1/2 wraps, 3" between
secondary and primary ( looking
for the soft spot ).
capacitor, 12pack.
spark gap, the same two bolts from the first coil, ( that one is looking
for a revision ).
will probably replace with series spark plugs.
power, two 15/30 nst's in parallel. (with two on reserve, in need of
something. have continuity but, no power).
applied power to it got nothing, except that sg created a nice 5" to 6"
arc, extending up at about a
60 degree angle, and then shooting back down, with a sort of mobius twist
at the top of the arc.
brought sg to 3/8" gap (from about 1") added the plate cap that i had
started building, in parallel
with 12pack. which is 12 - 8" x 5" ( being the area that's overlapping )
aluminum plates, separated
by 1/4" uhdpe. tried several things, sg in series with primary, cap in
parallel with nst, and vice versa, where it has stayed. raising and
lowering of the toroid, blah blah blah.
applied power to it again, got 1/8" arcs off the toroid to an extended
metal object. noticed that the
the wire connected to the output of the primary was laying dangerously
close to the secondary, and
in fact a wash of purple streamers, approximately 1" long were arcing to
the primary.
well, that's something right. another thing i noticed, was arcing in the
secondary windings, about an
1" 1/4 form the top (guess i'll be fixing that).
slow going
