Greg, all,

Any ball bearing motor will have zero end play, and most sleeve
bearing motors will have very little play.  If a sleeve bearing
motor has too much end
play,  just add washers on the shaft inside the motor to
take up the play.  Be sure not to use too many washers or
the shaft will bind up.  After adding the washers, and 
re-assembling the motor, give the shaft a spin by hand, and
it should spin freely, with no play.  Check the freeness of
the shaft before disassembling the motor, so the same
degree of free spinning can be strived for after adding the
washers.
