I'd agree with Terry... I tried a sparkplug gap and it never worked too
well. I also tried the "two carriage bolt heads and L bracket" scheme (hard
to adjust and very "twitchy").  The best cheap gap I've used is a couple or
three pieces of copper pipe (a couple sweat on couplings would work too)
arranged with axes parallel.  Easy to adjust, very cheap (free...), and the
large surface area seems to spread the sparks out so you don't get a hot
spot.  For the small amount of distance the current has to travel, I suspect
that almost ANY kind of metal pipe or rod would work.  Larger diameters will
work better. If you use galvanized fence post, watch out for the vaporized
zinc and oxides when you first run it.
