Hello Al and group,

Un fortunately, years ago, when I could have gotten a garage full of them, I
hadn't dreamed of anyway of using them.. The transducers are used in depth
sounders. Cheapies and US military grade. The ones that I have seen
usually are approx 3 inches in dia., about 1 1/2 inches thick, although, I
have seen them up to 10 inches in dia and around 4 inches thick. The
frequency of the pulse hitting the transducer is usually around 85 khz thru
220 khz. Housings around the transducer can be anything but are usually
epoxy or brass.

I've seen them sold at second hand shops for next to nothing. More if the
indicator is included.

Keep in mind though that Barium anything (salts, oxides, nitrates etc) are
very toxic.
