Fw: caps

List,

I stand by my recommendation. If you read carefully Mike's original
request, you see he is looking for filter caps for a DC power supply which
will run a Poulsen oscillator. The latter is in effect an arc lamp with a
resonant circuit (TC secondary tank) which produces RF power because of the
negative resistance characteristics of the carbon arc. He would NOT be
using the electrolytics in a tank circuit!

Electrolytics work fine for DC power supply filters. Mike should add an
L-diode filter to keep the RF out of the electrolytics (Greg Leyh of huge TC
fame is an advocate of DC powered TCs using L-diode RF filters.)

Of course, Mike may prefer the more awe-inspiring oil filled HV filter caps
just because they look more impressive!
