RE: Another MMC capacitor? Mylar DF = lossy



Hi Marc,
The dielectric Mylar has a higher dissipation constant, DF, than PP, PE, Mica.
See Scott Hansens latest Cap DF vs F Excel spreadsheet or any Electronics
reference book.

Simply put the molecules comprising the Mylar dielectric 
offer greater resistance to alternating cycles of current, creating heat
(loss),
that occurs to a much lesser degree in other dielectrics such as PP, etc.

The result is real power consumed in a larger value Cap parallel resistance or 
mathematically equivalent Cap series resistance.

Mylar possesses a respectively low DC current leakage,
but suffers when that amplitude begins alternating worsening
as that amplitude increases and as AC alternates faster (higher frequency)

jim, if it isn't to much trouble could you explain why mylar is lossy
compaired to polypro.? i am intrieged by this mmc production and have
been following terrys threads dilagently.
