I don't know if this would be of any assistance, but when I am running my 
coil outside, I ground to the metal well casing that the well drillers drive 
into the ground. My understanding is that they go all the way to the bedrock. 
I have heard of other coilers using cars, and other large metal objects which 
would have a very large capacitance as a ground, even if they are not 
actually connected to the earth itself. I would think it depends on the coil 
size, too. i would be interested in any opinions on the grounding to non 
"grounded" metal objects from other folks, if I am incorrect about this.
