RE: uv shielding of sparkgap

While buying welding cable for the hook up of the primary at Home Depot, I
saw and bought a 4" square of welding glass (dark purple). I plan to drill
holes for mounting brackets using a glass drill (I've used it with ease) and
mount it over my 4" diamter PVC tube that houses the Safety Gap.

     Folks,

I've been wondering about shielding the UV output of my sparkgap. I'd
like to be able to see the light of the gap, but not worry about the
     UV.

I asked at TAP Plastics, and they said they had clear, UV coated
acrylic for $6/ft. Has anyone tried using this sort of thing on a
sparkgap? It's probably intended for the sun's rays, do you think it
would protect from the sort of UV power a sparkgap puts out?

     thanks,
