I dunno, the inertial mass of the rods, and the mechanical problems might be
horrendous.
I was thinking a large array of seried vertical disks mounted on a large
horisontal shaft. Construction could be G-10, or UHMW, for the base,
Aluminum disks, Thoriated Tungsten electrodes, Steel shaft, standard roller
bearings, and a rather manly DC motor (I could scrounge one from a forklift
:) they're like 36 or 48VDC -at- WELL over 100 A, I think they can go to 400A)
more than enough power :)
