Aaargh! Sounds terrible... not something to repeat - a slow burning fire
inside your walls or plastering, or worse close to your gas service
inlet, I something to avoid.

The filters should be run backwards, and should be connected to the
*house* ground. However it sounds like you might want to check the house
ground is good... measure the resistance between it and your RF ground.
It should be lower than a few k. Any comments others? It could be that
the connection has come loose at the distribution board or the ground
system. Unless you are grounding to a water pipe? Avoid this, especially
in modern plumbing installations that may use much plastic pipe. Or
maybe your filters aren't big enough?
