It is probably less the NST that causes the shock. Rather, it's the static
build-up around the jacobs ladder. I have a small JL in a acrylic tube,
powered by a NST (or a TV flyback), and even after short run times there's
lots of static electricity on the tube surface and due to the ionized air.
The zap comes from you charging up in the ionized air and then touching
the metal rods, or from touching the acrylic tube and the metal.
