I'm not sure if there is a formula determine  wire diameter by gauge 
number. ( AWG seems to vary slightly depending on who you get your chart 
and/or wire from) Easiest  to determine the wire diameter from an AWG chart 
and do a mils to millimeters conversion  (mils  X .0254)
