If you get enough exposure (if the sparks are bright enough in the final
photo) on 1/30 you'd probably have to be using 3200 film or faster,
which will be VERY grainy. On a 'normal' 15/60 type coil, expect to
need at least 2 seconds and more like 3-5 with 200 or 400 speed film.
Velvia is a very good film, perhaps the best you can buy for typical
color saturation. For your first time though, I'd try simple Fuji 400
since it costs about 1/2 of velvia.
A couple other people have mentioned starting at 1s, then 2s, then 3s,
etc.. You might also want to try different f stops in there too. BTW,
this is called bracketing in the biz ;)
