BPS refers to how many times the spark gap fires each second.
If the gap fires every ac half cycle, this is 120 bps, because their
are 2 half cycles per cycle of 60Hz AC. 16" is pretty good for the
typical 12/30 TC. I obtain 42" sparks from my 12/30 TC:
