Re: Capacitor info
Kevin:
Your capacitor is a Cornell Dublier Polyster Film/Foil,
Axial Lead capacitor rated .47uFd at 600/630DC, 250VAC.
The description (from the catalog) is as follows:
"Type WMF film/foil capacitors have extended foil, non-inductive windings
with epoxy end seals and a sealed outer wrapper for excellent moisture
resistance. Type WMF capacitors are an excellent choice for general
purpose use and especially for applications with high peak currents."
Operating Temp: -55C to +125C (derate to 1/2 rated voltage at 125C)
Tolerance: +/- 10%
Dielectric strength: 250%
Dissipation Factor: 0.75% (max)
These are a little low in voltage for HV AC application ... it would
take 20 in series to get to only 5,000VAC (resulting in 0.0235 ufd)
and 40 in series to get to 10,000VAC (.01175ufd) with much lower
peak current capability since the string is so long.
Watch the temperature of these caps since they derate quickly if they
get hot.
