Re: Need Secondary wire source

Hi Chris et al-

Two comments on varnished wire: Someone in the wire business once
remarked to me that all the varnish really does is ensure turn:turn
spacing; you can't depend on it absolutely for any insulating property
beyond that of air-spacing because of the possibility of pinholes in it.

Also, my take on wire-varnish is that I'd rather do without it. As soon
as you get an inadvertent spark thru the varnish it seems to me that you
create a little carbon whisker; a nice sharp, conducting point (or
perhaps 2 of them, facing each other!)--and we know what that means, do
we not? Of course, now that I think further on it, you might well get
such a point or points anyway--due to the tiny splash of molten copper
at the place where the spark hits. Does anyone have a comment on that?

I'm presently trying to develop a better way to space-wind bare wire onto
a secondary form.

lost to between turn dielectric breakdown. Does anyone have a good
source for double formvar or better wire? I have found some quadruple
coated wire (may be overkill) but can't find a supplier that will sell by
the pound. I need about 5 pounds of 22 gauge asap.
