Re: Wire Guage and Q? (toroid)

Hello again..

My toroid is 23" in diameter and has a 7" cord. I think it may be a bit big.
It is flexible dryer duct covered with foil tape.

Also, checking continuity to the ground from the toroid reveals 1Kohm of
resistance. I think this may be because the glue backing of the foil tape
is only semiconductive. What do you guys use?

I taped a piece of white cardboard with a piece of electrical tape across it
to the rotor. four fuzzy lines showed up, so it really is synchronous.
Very pleasing. Still havn't tried it out though... my mom gets home this
afternoon so i'll hook it up this morning and try it out when she arrives.

I never run the coil when no adults are around because last spring when i
did, (possibly divine intervention to teach me a lesson?) i got stupid, used
a bare wire, didn't discharge my cap, brushed against the wire as I reached
over to the surge suppressor to turn it on. So it discharged through me.
Right middle finger to left forefinger. ouch. (every muscle from my waist to
my neck contracted, including my vocal cords and everything :-O )

so now i am VERY careful and make sure I work slowly, and only when adults
that know CPR are around. I am lucky to be alive, and i figure I really
should learn from that.

Anyway, my motor is synchronous, and I will try it out today. Also I will
try adjusting the primary to about 8 turns. Maybe I will stick my old
toroid on the coil too, just to see what happens. it's 3" pipe and a 14"
diameter.

thanks for the help, guys!
