Hi Frank...
the range of UV produced by the Spark gap is very similar to the same as
arc welding... the range falling between 60nm to 200nm .. this range
is considered the hi energy range of UV ( black lites the low end at
300 - 420 nm ) as far as the amount of light output from the spark gap
... well that all depends upon the wattage/voltage/resistance in the gap
itself ... if you are looking for degrees K of the light of spark gaps
its in the upper 2800 to lower 3300 range, also depending upon the
wattage of the gap. If you have a need to watch the gap either mount one
of those welders glass shields ( a #10) in front of it or get a piece of
glass and "smoke" it by holding it over a candle and allowing the soot
to build up onto it .. both of these items work well as a UV shield.
DO Not look at the actual arc for any length of time it will "sunburn
" your retinas .. you wont feel anaything at first but in a few hours
it will feel like sand in your eyes a most unpleasant feeling...
take care dont STARE ;)
