Because of the high voltage rating of your pulse cap and the high Basic
Impulse Level (BIL) rating of the pig, you can use a significantly wider
spacing than for a 15 kV NST and thereby avoid nuisance firings. 

Once the safety gap fires on a pig-based system, you may encounter
steady power arcing across the safety gap(s). This will require you to
decrease the variac setting or kill power to extinguish. To avoid having
to do this, you may want to make "horn gap" safety gaps (sort of like a
mini-Jacobs Ladders) to allow the gap to self-extinguish if triggered.
