Re: Brass or steel spheres (Oudin terminal)
Hi Pete,
Try Liberty brass and steel http://www.libertybrass-dot-com/ . I
ordered all of the brass balls that I used on the 2MV machine here (1"
diameter taped for 1/4-20 TPI). A few years ago I ordered 3" solid brass
balls tapped for 3/8 - 16 for potential transformer terminals for about $12
each. Order the balls pre tapped. Depending on the ball size they have
certain tapped hole sizes already on hand. They also have price breaks
with quantity. These balls are not perfectly round. They are maid for
drawer pulls and such. They do a good job most of the time. Out of the
hundreds that I have ordered over the years only a few were off by a few
thousands of an inch. This is fine for high voltage work.
If you need humongous brass balls try Salem specialty ball
http://www.salemball-dot-com/inventory/brassInv.htm , they sell up to 9"
solid brass balls (you couldn't lift these without a wench!).
Cheers,
Barry
