It does consume some power. For a peak charging current (let's 
say) of 100mA, you get a drop across 6k of 600V - not really 
significant when considering a power source delivering 15kV or 
more. Peak power loss is 600W for this example but that is only at 
peak current, a somewhat transient transient condition as current 
falls off as the cap charges.

No. The chokes are excluded from the tuned circuit by the 
conducting spark gap.

They shouldn't really participate in resonant charging although they 
will to some extent. That should be the preserve of the main primary 
cap.

Lastly the power factor capacitor, is this now commonly employed by

I always use them with NSTs. Makes switches and fuses a lot 
happier.
