Re: Homemade Trasformer

Hi Ross,

Subject: Re: Homemade Trasformer

When you wind your xformer, go for wide but short
windings. The reason? Well picture the voltage
difference between the layers (which is what you
need to insulate). A short and wide winding will have
a low voltage difference between layers, whilst a
long winding length will have a higher voltage
difference between the layers, which would call for
more insulation. You should also leave some space
between the end of the windings and iron core.
I also suggest running it under oil to prevent corona
and enamel deterioration.

Good luck.
