Variac questions and etc.

Hi all....

i will be recieving several variacs in the next week or so and since
most of them are in the 10 - 25 amp range ( 2 of them the same) i was
wondering about how does one use 2 variacs (the same model) in a tandem
form to increase the power handling capacity of the units ??? they are
120V 25A units, can i wire them in such a manner that will result in
120V 50A ????? and can this be done with 240V units too ???

also i will have in my possession 3 variacs rated for 120V 4.5 - 5 A...
these would be great for those 12-15KV 30mA NSTs ( one per trannie) they
are not encased ( will need a box of some type ) im hoping i will be
able to offer them to the newbies that are running a single NST
system...

one more question ... i also have a 30 KV DC probe ( built in meter)
upon disecting it i found a rather potent resistor( 600Meg) a
meter(50uA 5K?? internal resistance full swing 20Kohms per volt .35V
goes to 2/3rds scale) and a switch

can i install a diode and a paralell adjustable resistor across the
meter to allow for AC reading?? the reason i ask is im not too sure if i
need a full wave bridge or just a single diode between the Rmain and the
meter. Im worried about the negative side of the sine wave, will it bite
me from the ground lead?

i will be using it ( if it works) to test the outputs of the NST's I
have ( from HIVolt bushing to case ground only)
