RSG Sync
Hello Everyone,
I've been lurking for several months while building my coil, and
the discussion was a great help. For the last two days my efforts
have been on tuning my new coil, and last night it really started
to sing, creating 5 foot branching purple arc displays.
My main problems with tuning was the use of copper ribbon from
McMaster-Carr (.021 x 1.5 inch). It came into tune at 3.2 turns,
which really surprised me, but I highly recommend this material
and the G10 they sell. My coil uses the following:
1. 15 amp Variac
2. 100 to 1 scientific high voltage transformer (13KV)
3. Synced 8 pole rotary spark gap
4. 2 blue 40KV .01 MFD Caps (designed for the purpose)
5. 400 turn 11 inch secondary
6 22 inch toriod with break out points
7. 3.2 turns of .021 X 1.5 inch ribbon copper for primary
I still have one question, while looking at the spark gap with my Strobotac
I noticed that when I sync with 60 HZ line voltage the gaps are not lined
up. Would it work better if I rotate the gap ring on the motor shaft to line
them up?
Thanks for the great help.
