Hi Esquire,
I would presume to suggest that you make the ball-gap adjustable. Get two
2-inch right- angle brackets. Drill and tap the balls for 1/4 x 20. From the
inside of the angle bracket
use a bolt to tighten a nut against the inside of the bracket. Get everything
nice and clean,
use plenty of flux and a large iron to sweat solder the brass nut to the
angle bracket.
Screw the ball to the end of the brass bolt and you have an adjustable gap.
You may have to clear the threads a little, but this has never been a
problem. Here is an excellent example of how a simple diagram would make
things so clearer. As a teaching tool,
ascii sucks badly.
